Troubled teenager is a phrase used to describe many types of issues teens face. A troubled teen or at risk teen can be anyone having to deal with learning disabilities, drug and alcohol abuse, anger issues, and almost anything you may think of regarding a teen issue that none of us would find positive.

So where do we get treatment for our troubled teens? Well it all depends on the issue of course; the first step would be to identify the problem and the cause of the problem, which in most cases would require a professional evaluation. Based on that evaluation your teen will be recommended a treatment for troubled teens that is well suited for the behavioral issue in question.

Specialty boarding schools are meant for teens dealing with various behavioral issues. Teens with learning disabilities, with emotional problems and social inability to adapt will greatly benefit from specialty boarding schools. They will learn there in a healthy and friendly environment how to deal with their issues through workshops, private and group therapy.

If it is a short term issue that may be dealt with using a direct approach the best possible course of action may be wilderness programs. These are good for regular kids that just seem to have lost their interest and faith in themselves. Teens go onto a wilderness trip for two or three weeks and in most cases they come back as they once were, vibrant, positive and full of life.

On the other hand if this is a hard behavior issue regarding discipline maybe boot camp is the best choice. Kids that enter a boot camp usually end up either regretting their previous decisions and go back willing to correct their mistakes out of fear that they will once again be sent to a boot camp or they embrace the hard boiled discipline.

There are also military schools, but military schools don’t deal with hard behavioral issues. These are not behavior modification programs or schools; they are a great place for slightly disoriented kids to learn discipline, structure and gain respect towards authority.

And if your teen has a drug abuse issue or alcohol abuse issue or even hard mental problems the best possible options are residential treatment centers.

There is a professional solution to any issue there is, especially for troubled teenagers. Treatment for troubled teenagers doesn’t necessarily have to end up in one of these places, it can be done at home, but only milder issues. After all, you wouldn’t want to risk your child’s well being.

If you have a troubled teenager you probably are thinking of the right program to help your child. Well, before choosing and considering what programs will best suit your child you need to address the main concerns and the needs of your child, which will drastically narrow down the choice.

So what are the main concerns you need to pay attention to before you start thinking about the right programs for your troubled teenager? In most cases you need to separate the issues such as substance abuse, your teen running away from home or joining gangs. There are also issues like defiance and rebelling teens, the teens that have trouble with the law or have their grades falling and their school performance as well. Some kids are too impulsive that gets them in trouble, or have issues with social interaction and other social activities, maybe teens with emotional issues or narcissistic type of behavior.

These are all the type of issues you need to pay attention to and make a list of your child’s issues and according to that you can go program hunting. So now that you have the list of your teen’s issues the next step is to inform yourself of the troubled teen available programs, here is a short list of the ones your teen will probably have to go to.

The first choices on everyone’s mind are always therapeutic boarding schools and residential treatment centers. These programs have a wide choice of services for wide specter of teen issues, most parents go for them because teens can be enrolled without their consent and they simply cannot be expelled from these schools as they are meant to help the teen. But, this is not the main reason; the reason is that these programs offer group and individual therapy for their students as well as the 12 step programs. In most of these schools girls and boys are kept separate so you can have an all girls or all boys school if you prefer. Most of these programs are there to help your teen deal with his emotional issues and help him grow and the best part is that family involvement is greeted and welcome, as the end result these types of programs have a great overall success rate.

There are many parents that simply don’t know what to do with their troubled teenagers. Parents seem to cope with teenagers that have learning issues, depression, that used drugs or some that have even been involved with gangs, most parents feel like they’ve hit a brick wall with their teenage children in that situation. Some go for therapy and medication, some try hard, some don’t, but whatever it is that you have tried, if it’s not working maybe specialty boarding schools are the right choice.

If you just think about it, whatever the problem your teen child seems to have, the chances of overcoming it is greater if the child is placed into a positive environment with other teenagers of the same age and with the same problems. Just the environment can be a healthy place and sufficient for progress. And if you as a parent worry that you can’t find the right teen boarding school or you don’t have the funds to send your child top one, you shouldn’t worry. There are numerous help programs and government grants that will help you and your teenager in such a situation.
But what can you expect from a specialty boarding school? Well most of these boarding schools have a certain specialty like the name implies. Some are specialized in dealing with kids with learning disabilities, some are specialized in dealing with troubled teenagers that used drugs and alcohol and behaved violently, while there are some that may do all that and more. First you need to find the best specialty boarding school for your teenager, after that the teachers will take care of him, but don’t think that is the end for you. Just by sending your child to a boarding school doesn’t mean you passed on the responsibility, your responsibility is now greater than ever. You need to participate in everything you can together with your child, showing and giving support is the number one most important thing when helping a teenager overcome a problem, no matter what that problem might be.
But, for the rest, you can be assured that professionals at the specialty boarding schools will take care of everything. They will give proper education to your child, there are plenty of group sessions, social games for developing, physiological workshops and many other things that will help your child grow mentally. Parents that still have a stereotype in their head that only kids with problems go to specialty boarding schools need to think twice and get over themselves. There is nothing wrong with a normal teenager attending a boarding school of this kind, there is plenty to learn and plenty of room to grow, if your child seems uninterested in the world, maybe such a boarding school is the perfect place for him or her.

According to the great Aristotle, “Man perfected by society is the best of all animals; he is the most terrible of all when he lives without law, and without justice.” At Darrington Academy, they believe that academic success or failure plays a major role in all aspects of a student’s life.

Proper education enable children in acquiring the tools they need to become responsible members of the community. And that’s why with Spring Creek Lodge Academy (SCLA), they help all students develop their full potential academically, socially, emotionally, and physically—things SCLA deemed important to prepare them for adulthood.

Spring Creek Lodge Academy is a year round boarding school designed to provide a highly structured and scheduled environment for troubled teens that have been negatively influenced by drugs, alcohol, peer interaction and low self-esteem.

The goals of SCLA:

> Our primary concern is to help families and their child/children become a functioning family again.
> Our secondary concern is academics.

The two are interconnected; yet separate, since the academic progress is the end result of the student consistently working the program.

There is no harm in aiming to be extraordinary members of the community. In the case of Spring Creek Lodge Academy, they train students to be leaders of the pack. After all, being the best that students can be is more than what parents can ask for!

For more information visit their blog here, where you can find feedbacks of students, parents and school administration regarding Spring Creek Lodge Academy.

Alas, you can now locate a boarding school being bombarded with appreciation letters from parents of the students—Majestic Ranch Academy.

Majestic Ranch Academy is a boarding school for girls and boys ages 7 to 14. They pride themselves with the academic excellence they bring. They believe that there is no room for mediocrity, no matter what the occasion or excuse is. But before you think you they are a bunch of perfectionist, hear them out first.

Majestic Ranch Academy rejects the lax standards that they think have infected American public education. Call it tough love. But they do strive to affirm that the greatest satisfactions are to be found in hard work which leads to excellence.

Students are given excellent opportunities to gain skills by assisting in several ranch duties such as calving, lambing, and caring for cows, sheep, horses, goats, llamas, cats and dogs. Why so, you may ask? Because the students’ insights, awareness and perspectives are broadened whilst participating in these types of activities.

A boarding school situated in a ranch may probably be not ideal location for a boarding school; they’ll give you that. However, because of the surroundings and elements that the school is in, your child can considerably learn a lot from this experience.

If you want to help on raising your teen aged 13 to 18 years old, then Red River Academy may just be the boarding school that you have long been looking for.

Red River Academy is located near the a red river in Louisiana, hence the name. This red rive runs through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana. It is a few kilometers from Houston and Dallas, where the rural and serene environment make it an ideal location for education, development and growth of many adolescents.

How was Red River Academy founded?

Red River Academy was born out of the founder’s desire to create an outlet, where values and education can turn lives around. Bearing this principle in mind, Red River Academy follows a progressive, competency based curriculum.

Why does Red River Academy follow a progressive curriculum?

Because in Red River Academy, they simply do not assume your teens have learned something. They make sure they do. And this is where their unique policy of progressive, competency based curriculum becomes particularly useful.

How does Red River Academy make their mission possible?

Teachers closely work hand in hand with students. They make sure it is meaningful, not just some disposable incident. Even the school support staff assist in the character development program. They will coach your child regarding school standards, responsibilities, and positive citizenship.

Parents want their children to grow as responsible citizens of the community. Of all the troubled teens programs, parents seek those which offers solutions. Not only because parents want their money’s worth, but because they care for their kids. And that’s why Cross Creek Programs paved way for solutions of these kinds of parenting dilemmas.

Cross Creek Programs are deemed as one of the most effective in the academe, especially for junior high and high school students. It is a boarding school, with a separate campus and program for boys and girls and they have integrated in their curriculum a therapeutic component for teens. It is located in the scenic part of Southern Utah and is surrounded by several National Parks and Lakes.

Their programs are deemed balance because they offer the following: character building, educational seminars, health and physical fitness programs, structured daily schedule, emotional growth and personal development courses, recreation, individualized academic instructions, group, individual and family therapy.

Aside from those, they also make it a point to provide opportunities for community service and competitive sports. There is also no need to be wary about your teens—the boys and girls are never together except for a selected supervised seminars and a few educational training.

If it is of any comfort, take note that when a poll was taken, it was found that there was a 96% parent satisfaction rate. If you would like to talk to a parent who has a teen currently in one of these programs or has a teen who has graduated, you can visit the school’s blog here and the official website here.

Midwest Academy is located just north of Keokuk, Iowa. Rich in history, culture and natural beauty, Keokuk, Iowa was named in honor of the Sauk/Fox chief, and is a place of great history and bright future. It is considered “Americas Heartland” where values and the importance of family are still paramount.

Midwest Academy implements impacting intervention that includes an effective behavior modification program with a structured daily schedule, a series of highly motivational emotional growth seminars & workshops called “TASKS,” a progressive academic program, and daily personal development & emotional growth courses.

TASKS stands for Teen Accountability, Self-Esteem and Keys to Success. After the student has completed their series of seminars then the parents are invited to attend a Parent Seminar and two Parent/Child Seminars. Parent/Child seminars are designed to assist each family in rebuilding the family unit.

Both on- and off-campus activities provide a proper balance of recreation, exercise, learning, personal development and social opportunities. Initially all activities are on grounds. Over a period of time students may earn the privilege of participating in off grounds activities.

If you are concerned about the gravity of creating a family purpose and vision, reaching understandings, and setting goals, then you need not worry. This is precisely the reason why they thrive until this day. Commitment to each student and their family is one of the reasons Midwest Academy is so successful
