The bottom line is that it is not hard to teach them, but you need to set an example first.

One of the hardest things to do is to teach your teen how to be responsible with money and his finances. Some think that teens should have their own jobs and pay for their expenses, but that leaves them stretched and there is a great possibility that they will not be able to focus on their academics. Other parents will give their teens allowance, but then it is much harder to learn the teen some money management skills and responsibility. And then there are parents that don’t care about it at all and just give their teens money whenever they ask them.

Every teenager is different, but there are a few things you can do in order to install some money management responsibility in your child.

The first thing you need to do is set the example, you know what they say, lead by example. So be the one they should look up to, send an example that money isn’t everything and that it is not about getting more things. Show them that what they earn needs to be respected and that you set aside a sum of money from each salary, also set an example that they need to buy what is necessary and not to go on shopping spree because they felt like it. You need to be the first person that spends his funds with moderation, if you don’t do that yourself you can’t expect your teen child to be moderate.

Next step is to share some of the responsibility with your teen child, which is a great step to teen money management success. The next time you are buying something a bit expensive for your home or your family, make sure that your child is in on the decision; let him or her take part in making of the decision. Make sure you present your budget and what you have saved and how and what are your thought on spending that budget, then let your teen participate, that will give him a great learning experience you can never convey to him with words.

A great way to let your teen embrace the responsibility is by sharing your financial situation with your teen child. If you are uncertain of what to do or have a bad financial situation, share that with your teen, you might be surprised with the ideas your teen can come up to help you solve the issue, that will give them a great sense of responsibility that will stick.

One of the most important things is to teach your child about the difference between real needs and wishes and wants. They need to understand what the priorities are or later in life they may suffer the consequences when they want things they cannot afford.

The last thing you need to do is let your teen learn with his own mistakes, there is no better teacher than life itself. Let him make a few mistakes and pay the consequences on his own, which will be one of the greatest lessons for your teen child.

These are just a few tips to help you teach your child financial responsibility and install some money management skills.

Many parents think about the right time for their children to start earning for themselves, to get a feel for their own money and how difficult and important it is to know the importance of money. It really is a difficult question to answer, but most common age would be high school, once your child is in high school it can handle a summer job.

Finding a summer job is not as easy as it once was, there are just too many things to consider these days when looking for a part time job. Finding a summer job is a bit easier than finding a full time job per hour for teens, and some places will offer you a nice sum to earn for the summer. Of course we live in the 21st century, so now we also can use internet to find a summer job. There are plenty of sites like snagajob.com that will help teenagers find a really good job for the summer. So using those sites not only can you find a job easier but you can also take a pick from some really good jobs.
But the biggest issue is not whether kids can find a job, the issue is can they manage it right. The number one reason why parents make their children take a summer job is to get the feel for the money, to understand the importance of money, and to realize how hard it can be to earn money the honest way so that they can respect it later. But that is something that they will realize on their own in time, but will they be able to manage that money right? Kids and money have never been a quite profitable combination, which is why money management is very important, even for teens.
Half of the idea is to give your teen a job and he or she will get the feel for it alone, but some of them won’t. That is why you as a parent need to teach them how to manage that money that they earn. A good way is to start with an organized allowance from an early age and keep it organized, that way they will develop a feel for money management early. Of course there are other ways, but the important part is that you as a parent need to be educated in order to educate your child, so start browsing, because internet can find you plenty of useful information if you know where to look.
