We need to learn our teens some responsibility and what is moral and what isn't.

Last year a general study about teens who cheat was released, the study reflects on the influence on cheating later in life. The results of that study were really alarming, and the fact that teens show no remorse and the fact that they seem to be ok with cheating should be dealt with. The fact is that a great number of teens stated that they don’t consider copying from their classmates as cheating. The overall opinion about cheating of the new generation is really scary and totally different from what it was 20 or 30 years ago. The bottom line is that today’s average teen thinks that it is normal to cheat and even lie if that is what it takes to get by.

Although some ethics seem obvious to parents it is our duty to explain them to our teen children no matter how obvious they seem, we have to assume that they don’t know much about it. We need to be perfectly clear about cheating, what cheating is and how that behavior influences us and how to avoid it. Make sure that your teen child understands what is cheating:

	- Fabricating data or resources on a school paper, school homework etc.
- Copying from anyone else, whether they copy from a person sitting next to them or from an online paper, a book, it doesn’t matter, that is cheating. The only way that would not be considered as cheating is if they get permission to copy writings and name the source.
- Plagiarizing other students work as their own or simply copying it word for word
- Getting answers for a test from any possible source
- Having someone take the test for them or taking the test instead of someone
-
Although most of these things seem very obvious the study revealed that teens don’t have many issues with this type of behavior, it is normal for them and they accept it. So what can we do to modify this type of behavior and limit teen cheating? Well, the first place to start is teaching your teen honesty at home, then we need to assume that the same is done in school and extra curricular activities our child attends. You as a parent need to discuss with your teen the values and importance of honesty.

Honesty is something we need to expect from our teen children, the alternative, dishonesty, should not be tolerated in any form. The first place to start is by setting a good example in your own home. You need to clearly explain to your child what is tolerated and what isn’t and what will be the consequences if you catch your teen lying, cheating or engaging in any other dishonest type of behavior. This will help your teen child understand that you are serious about teen cheating and it will make it clear to them that this is not the way they should act.

Even the most talented kids with high intelligence, talents, set of skills and great learning abilities can fail if they don’t have a goal. If you point your child into the right direction and teach him about goal setting you can be sure that your child will move in the right direction and make his dreams come true. So the question is how to avoid a scenario where you watch your talented and intelligent teen fail because lack of motivation and lack of goals?

The first thing you need to do is communicate with your teen child. It is not as hard as you think, anyway, focus on defining a goal. Try to explain to them the importance of having a goal and the benefits of having a goal; explain to them how a goal can be a great motivation. Make them think about it and write answers to these questions:

	- What I want out of my life?
- What is it that I enjoy doing the most?
- What makes me happy?
- What do I hold dear, what is of great value to me?
- Who is my role model and what are his or hers characteristics?
- If I could make a grand change in the world, what would I change?
- List of things I am good at.
- What keeps me going, what motivates me?
- Where do I see myself in 5 or 10 years?
- What places would I like to visit, where would I like to live?

These are very simple questions, but they can help your teenager identify his goal. This is a helpful exercise that can greatly help your child. Once your teen has a clue of what he wants and where he is going make sure you teach him some basic goal setting strategies.

Teach them how to define their goals, but make sure they understand that goals are realities, while dreams are not, there is a great difference. Explain to them how to research and brainstorm a goal. They have the benefit of using internet now, so it is much easier for them to investigate. One of the most important things is to teach them how to bridge the gaps and how to cross the roadblocks in their goal that may appear along the way.

The best place to start is setting up a goal with their school. Let them create a goal with their school year, a school program or sport program and how fast they can achieve their goal and with what effort, that will be a great test of their skills and goal setting ability. You can talk to them about how good it feels when the goal you set is completed, but they will not know it until they experience it themselves. So let them learn the goal setting techniques and let them set their first goal, once they finish their goal they will know how great of a motivation it can be.
If that is the case you have to do something about it. learn how to recognize what falls under inappropriate teacher behavior and what to do about it.

Unfortunately not all teachers are the same, in fact, not all teachers are what we are hoping them to be. Not all of them are cheerful, eager to teach and help their students, some teachers are in fact looking forward to shortened hours, holidays and the power that comes with being a teacher, and in other words, some teachers are bullies.

If you think that your teacher is a bully and that he is crossing the line, there are a few things that you can do to change that. Some of the options include talking to your teacher about it, or talking to his superior or even filling a complaint, in the worse case scenario you can transfer to another class or even school, but that wouldn’t stop that teacher from bullying others. Most students think that their words will not be believed, especially if they are targeting a teacher, but you have to realize that this is absolutely unacceptable type of behavior for a teacher and when a complaint has been made that teacher will be investigated.

It’s not hard to get on the teacher’s bad side, or for him to get on yours, but none of that means that your teacher is in fact a bully, so here is the typical behavior of a bully teacher to watch out for:

	- Humiliating a student
- Hostile physical contact or unwanted physical contact with the student
- Inappropriate remarks made to the student
- Suggesting to the student that his grades depend on other things besides his studies and performance in class

If you are planning to confront your teacher, the best way to do it is with a third person involved, a head of the department preferably. State your concerns and give examples of what your teacher did that you found inappropriate, having evidence of that or witnesses will help your case. The best option for you would be to ask your parents to attend this meeting for support.

If that doesn’t work you can file a formal complaint. If that doesn’t work then you haven’t accomplished your goal, and the only choice is to transfer, there is no purpose in staying in the class to suffer more. You must never tolerate teacher bullying. Make sure that before you file a complaint you have some evidence of the teacher acting inappropriate, as in most cases it comes down to “he said – she said”.

There are plenty of teenagers that drop out of school each day, well that is an understatement, there are 6,000 teens that drop out of school each day in the US alone. This is something we have to correct or the future will not look so bright.

We still have the problem with teenage dropouts, although most think that this is an issue of the past as the recent studies showed that dropouts were at a decline, the new results show that the percentage of dropouts declined only 2% in the last 10 years. We have over 6,000 teenage drop out of school each day, which is a horrifying number. The fact that this didn’t happen over night is also alarming as there were things we could have done to prevent this from happening. And the saddest fact about teenage dropouts is that they are more likely to have various problems later in life than kids who graduate from high school. Let’s look at some of the facts surrounding teenage dropouts.

- Approximately over 6,000 students drop out of school each day, which amounts to 1.2 million students each year only in the US
- Over 25% of high school freshmen don’t graduate on time
- Number of Hispanic students who drop out of school is twice larger than African Americans, and White and Asian Americans are the least likely to drop out.
- In the US alone, over 65% of convicted criminals are dropouts, which makes the majority of criminals dropouts and makes dropping out of school one of the greatest starters of criminal activities
- Four years ago America’s graduation rate was 1st in the world, now it is 19th

These are very alarming facts, in order to stop the dropout rate from increasing we should start working from our home and educate our own children. The first thing we need to do like with everything else is look for the warning signs.

	- One of the basic warning signs is frequent absence from classes
- Low grades
- Disciplinary problems
- Low self esteem
- Any disability
- Emotional issues such as depression
- Substance abuse
- Early sexual activity

But there are also school caused risk factors for your child you should pay attention to:

	- Discipline systems with zero or little effect
- Low number of school counselors
- Low expectation of students
- School violence

These are all of the warning signs and facts you need to know to understand the teenage dropout issue and to have some clue on how to approach it and when. It is important that we as parents start the change from within our homes as it appears that most public schools are underfunded and understaffed. We all want what is best for our children, but they will never achieve much if they don’t even graduate from high school.

Preparing for college is a part of every teenager’s life, while some may have easy time choosing and entering a college there are kids that are having difficulties, especially teens with disabilities. Preparing for college the best way is through high school, thinking in advance and choosing your classes will enhance your chances of attending a good college. But there are plenty of other resources for teens to prepare for college, some of those resources, and currently the easiest ones to use, are websites.

Choosing a website is also hard, not as hard as choosing college, but you have to find the right ones. Some websites may change over time, once a great resource may not be so good anymore, plus you have to think if a website is opened for everyone. A child with a disability may not be able to browse through a normal site, so a website with videos and audios might be necessary. To save you the time of looking online for a good website here are three top notch website that deal with teens preparing for college.

Washington Education is the first and the best site we will recommend. This is one of the oldest sites that deal with college preparation and they are the greatest authority around. Every single information needed can be found on this site. This site is also perfect for kids that have no idea what they want, through plenty of specific articles teens can look into their opportunities and make a choice, which is the first step of preparing for college.

The second website where you can get plenty of info and prepare for college in the best possible way is College Prep 101. This is also an old site that deals exclusively with college preparations. Information about student loans, apartments, planning and college terminology can be found in one place in a very easy to read format.

The last site we recommend is Family Education; they have a great section about preparing for college with plenty of other resources available on their site. In addition to outside resources they offer practical tips on how to make a perfect college application, taking care of finances and even dealing with roommates at college.

I am positive that every teenager can find what he or she is looking for on one of these three websites. Using this free info will help you prepare for college in the best possible way.

Why would a teen need online resources, I know it’s obvious but let’s go through it anyway. Well first of all internet is the fastest way to get information, although that job can prove to be a difficult one sometimes, it sure is faster and it offers more of different subjects than you could get in a library. But that is just the beginning, for teens or even adults that have a real live problem situation sometimes internet can be the easiest solution, like hotline numbers.

Do you want to know the sad truth about teens that drop out of school? Well I will tell you anyway, more than 80% of teens that dropped out of school had passing grades. What do you think that means, well there are several sides to everything, but some of the most important reasons for those kids to drop out of school are the lack of teacher’s engagement and lack of interest by the adults for the teen’s school activities. Those are just a few examples, not the main reason; the reason is that those kids felt that they don’t have a need to invest in their school, and there are a lot of things that led them to that, one of those being the lack of interest by those who should show the most interest.

There are numerous reasons why teens drop out of school, the most common ones are academic difficulty and failure, poor attendance, being held back, disengagement from school, transition to a new school and other life factors like family problems or financial difficulties. So there are two main concerns following tens that drop out of school, prevention of that happening and what to do if it does happen.
The sad truth about teens that drop out of school can be looked at the bright side of it, if those kids had passing grades, then what did they need to stay in school and finish it? Very little in fact, it would not be hard to prevent those kids from dropping out; all they needed was support, motivation and assurance that someone cares. The bottom line is that parents need to step in when they notice their children are having trouble dealing with something, so a teenager dropping out of school is the parents fault even more than the teenagers.
Even bigger issue is what to do with teenagers that dropped out of school. School dropouts are too easily accepted in our society and that is a mistake we created and it will take a long time before we correct it. Once teen drops out of school he lacks the motivation to keep going, he loses the tools that are needed to succeed in the future. Getting that teen back on track is a more difficult task than preventing a teen from dropping out. You need to realize that dropping out of school was not something that happened over night and as such it could be avoided, so you can’t presume that getting that kid back on track can be done over night also. It will require much more effort and attention; even professional help may be needed. The bottom line is that the kid that dropped out lost his focus and motivation, those are the two things you need to work with him and get them back. If you succeed to do that, with constant support your child may get back on track, but you need to persevere together with him or your child may easily stray off the path again.

Oppositional Defiant Disorder is defined as a pattern of disobedient behavior it maybe sometimes hostile and they usually break imposed rules. When your child always disobeys you by telling lies, ignores your rules and regulations, they usually want to do those things that you don’t want them to do. Those are the simple description of what an oppositional defiant behavior is all about. Those are just the simple side of the condition, but when it already affects the quality of life of your child or his/ her educational life are already affected, you may now need an advice from the specialists or professional experts.

To know more about the condition called Oppositional defiant disorder, we should know the signs and symptoms of the condition, knowing this will really help us relate with this condition. It is usually characterize by an acts of defiance or by a defiant behavior, they sometimes blames others for their behavior, bad temper and being irritable. Additionally, they tend to argue with their parents and as well as teachers, they intentionally upsets others people and looks for ways to get vengeance.

When those behavior mentioned above are present in your child, you must immediately bring him/ her to a professional in this field, so that they can give counseling and advices on how to handle the condition properly. Ignoring this will not help the child, it will just yield to a bigger problem that will affect the life of your child and later on it will affect the future of the child.

Moreover, Oppositional defiant disorder is usually misinterprets as other behavioral problem like attention deficit or ADHD. That is why it best that when see those mentioned above to your child, bring him/her immediately to doctor for evaluation. And the doctor will let him/her take the compression evaluation test. This test will determine if your child have Oppositional defiant disorder or other behavioral condition.

When dealing with a child with ODD, you must ask advice from the expert to have an effective intervention. There are parents that when situation comes that their child has a very uncontrollable behavioral problem, they tend to send the child to military schools or group homes. But these alternative treatments will not become successful if the parents are not involved. Still the best way of treatment is the moral presence and support of the family.

For the benefits of the parents we will present some of the treatments for this kind of behavioral problem. Your doctor will tell you to enroll in some training programs for parents; this is to help you on how to handle your child appropriately. It is also good that you and your family together with the child to attend programs about ODD for everyone to know the condition and they will also be able to help in managing the child’s condition around the house. Praising your child on the good things that he/she does will also help the child feel good about their selves. Do not also argue with your child, communicate with him/her in a calm way when he/she did something wrong.

Moreover, knowing also other underlying conditions of the child with ODD will also help in treating the condition. Because these conditions might put ODD become worst.

You can find schools, colleges, and/or libraries by simply walking around the town in search of one, by going through magazines, by getting recommendations from people who have previously used them, or by researching online. Each of these options has some advantages and disadvantages, but the advantages of finding schools, colleges, and/or libraries through the internet are more and the disadvantages are fewer. One reason you should find schools, colleges, and/or libraries online is the fact that the internet is convenient. You will not need to take time off work or off whatever you are doing to find the school, college, and/or library – you can do research in the comfort of your own office or home. It is also convenient because you can research day or night, all year round, since the internet never closes. You should use the internet to find schools, colleges, and/or libraries because the internet has no geographical or national boarders. If you relied on other means or research, you would be restricted to the state or the regions you live in. Almost all schools, colleges and libraries have websites where you can make comparisons. When you find what you want, you will be able to apply online and to make any transaction through your credit card if necessary. The fact that you have many schools, colleges, and/or libraries to choose from is advantageous in that from the laws of probability, the more the options available, then the higher are your chances of getting what you want. An important reason why you should find schools, colleges, and/or libraries online is that it is cheaper to do research online that it is to do offline. With online research, all you need is an internet connection and a computer – these are readily available. However, with offline sources such as magazines, you have to make a purchase. With other sources, you will spend money on transportation, on mailing, on printing, and on other things. The internet is advantageous as a source of information on schools, colleges, and/or libraries because it is current. If you were to rely on other sources such as brochures, there is a risk of applying when it is too late, or when terms and conditions have changed. Schools, colleges, and libraries update their websites regularly. The internet is a good source of information on schools, colleges, and/or libraries because it is anonymous. Anonymity about going to school is sometimes necessary for varying reason and with the internet, no one will ever know your intentions since all communications and transactions are done online. When using the internet to find schools, colleges, and/or libraries, you should take note of the cons of doing so and you should know possible remedies for these cons. The greatest con is that there is a risk of cyber crimes such as identity theft – to remedy this, only use websites that have a .gov or a .edu extension such as the National Center for Education Statistics. For more information on School Choice, which is also the way you choose libraries, follow this link.Top learn about good and bad sites you can read up on SEO first.

There are many sources of learning resources for subjects such as math, science, history, and art. However, not all the sources are convenient, not all are timely, not all are credible, and not all are reliable. You should know the different sources of such resources beforehand so that you can do comparisons to determine where you will get these learning resources.

One source of learning resources is the internet with resources such as LTC – it also happens to be the most popular. This is because of the many advantages of online learning resources over other resources. These include convenience since there is no need of leaving your own home or office and you can access the resources day or night, all year round, cost benefits since there is no money spent on travel and most online resources are free, and privacy – no one will ever know you are using the resources. The internet has no national or geographical boarders, meaning you can get learning resources from far away places. This is advantageous over other learning resources which are restrictive since, from the law of probability, the more the options you have, the greater the chances of getting the learning resources you want. Online learning resources are interactive – this makes them fun to use. However, online learning resources have several disadvantages. The most significant one is that it is difficult to establish the credibility and accuracy of an online learning resource. You should only go for a learning resource that has a .edu or a .gov extension. There is also a risk of internet fraud such as identity theft. Again, look at the extension and lookout for websites that start with https – a credible one starts with http.

Technological advances have made it possible to have other learning resources such as material burnt onto CDs or DVDs. These are usually cheaper than books, they are long lasting, and you get a choice of how you view them, meaning you can adjust the font and/or color on your computer if you so choose.

Another source of learning resources is text books and other books. These are advantageous in that you can always tell whether the book is genuine or not, unlike most websites. Textbooks are widely used by teachers and students alike and a great advantage over online learning resources is that it is actually easier to understand what is in a textbook. This is because you can always go back to the page you did not understand and it is also because we have been brought up with books – people just hop through online learning resources. However, textbooks and other books have several disadvantages. Taking the example of science, new technologies are discovered everyday and new formulas are derived everyday, this means books cannot be current. Other printed learning resources are periodicals, journals, and magazines.

People are a good learning resource. People adapt easily and they can make you understand better than a book or a website ever could. However, human beings can distort information at will and there is a risk of forgetting some of the facts.
